Ertharin Cousin
Executive Director,
United Nations World Food Programme

In a world plagued by hunger, Ertharin Cousin has dedicated her life's work to helping people in need, spending nearly three decades on the national, international, nonprofit, government and corporate scene to provide both immediate relief and long-term solutions to the persistent problem of food deprivation.

From her start as an administrator at two major U.S. grocery chains, Cousin currently serves as the executive director of the U.N. World Food Programme, the world's largest humanitarian organization. She previously held the posts of U.S. ambassador to the U.N. Agencies for Food and Agriculture, and head of the U.S. Mission to U.N. Agencies in Rome, Italy.

On the national level, Cousin has held top leadership positions in Feeding America and served as White House liaison to the State Department in the Clinton administration. She has played a vigorous role in the democratic party and in 2012 was named to Forbes Magazine's List of the World's 100 Most Powerful Women.
